The Wilmslow Advanced Motorists Group forms part of the North West England and North Wales region of the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM). The Group is run as a voluntary organisation on a 'not for profit' basis. The Group is also registered with the Charity Commission as a Registered Charity (No. 1113682).

The course that associates follow comprises classroom sessions and observed runs as detailed below:

Classroom 1 - Includes an explanation of the system of advanced driving, a description of the advanced driving course and distribution of the training pack.

Classroom 2 - Reviews the material learned in the first four Driving Sessions, and introduces the topics to be covered in the remaining Sessions.

Classroom 3 - Provides an opportunity for you to meet an IAM examiner. The examiner will explain how the advanced test is conducted and what they will be looking for. There will be the chance to ask questions and to resolve any problems arising from your guidance to date.

Observed Runs - This practical guidance will form the core of the course and will, usually, involve eight driving sessions. During these sessions you will drive your own car and will receive expert guidance from our specially trained advanced drivers, called Observers. An Observer is someone who has already passed the IAM Advanced Test and subsequently gone on to do further training within the local IAM Group. This additional Training ensures they can pass on the information and experiences they have gained to other people wanting to prepare for the IAM Advanced Test themselves.

Observed runs take place on Sunday mornings from 10:15a.m. for a 10:30a.m. start, normally on the first and third Sundays in each month and start from the car park at the Boddington and Dragon public house, Racecourse Road, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5LR.
